7 People Injured By Aerial Bombardments In Aweil By SAF
15 November 2010 – (Juba) – The SPLA has condemned the aerial bombardments by the Sudan Armed Forces in Aweil north county, Northern Bahr el Ghazal state on Friday.
No deaths have been reported although seven people were injured in the incident.
Speaking to SRS in Juba on Sunday, the official spokesman of SPLA, Colonel Philip Aguer Panyang confirmed the incident.
[Philip Aguer]: “Seven innocent civilians were injured when they were fishing in River Kiir. If the Sudan Armed Forces want to make these incidences on Friday as a threat to SPLA or southern Sudan we will not accept the threat and we will show to the world that we are the soldiers that respect the peace agreement.”
According to the SAF spokesperson, Alsawarmi Khalid, their forces were hunting for forces belonging to the Darfur anti-government group, the JEM who crossed the 1956 border and they mistakenly bombed the southern territory.
However, Aguer claimed that the SAF bombed the region intentionally saying that the SAF intends to make the south a battle field.
[Philip Aguer]: “If the Sudan Armed Forces wanted to search for excuses and they want to make southern Sudan a battle field, let them search elsewhere. When the Justice and Equality Movement attacked Omdurman, they didn’t come through southern Sudan. Secondly, the Justice and Equality Movement started in Khartoum and those who are working to resolve the Darfur problem were present in Khartoum. We in the Sudan People Liberation Army comply fully with the peace agreement and all the protocols that were signed.”
