Abducted Aid Workers Freed In Darfur
28 July 2010 - (Juba) – Two German aid workers kidnapped in Darfur were released on Tuesday.
The aid workers who work for the German Technisches Hilfswerk (THW) were kidnapped on the 22nd of June 2010.
Malthe Golla and Werner Stern were handed over to South Darfur state government after their release.
The governor’s advisor for humanitarian affairs Mr. Suleiman Ahmed Omar told SRS on Tuesday in Nyala airport while receiving the released aid workers that the aid workers were in good health condition.
[Suleiman Ahmed]: “The German Aid workers have been released today [Tuesday] and they were welcomed by the government of southern Darfur headed by the governor of the state. They are in good health. They were released following the request from the state government and complete secrecy and interventions from the local chiefs and administrators in the area.”
An American female aid worker of the US organization Samaritan’s Purse abducted more than two months ago was also freed on Tuesday.
