Calm Returns ToJebel Mara In Darfur After Aerial Bombardments By SAF

8th March 2011 – (Darfur) –Calm has returned to Jebel Mara area in Darfur following last week’s aerial bombardments by the Sudan Armed Force’s, allegedly attempting to flash out anti-government groups from the area.

The UNAMID Director of Communication and Public Information, Kemal Saiki spoke to SRS from Darfur on Monday.

[Kemal Saiki]: “the situation is calm. Of course it is unstable because you never know how it could develop but, for the time being, the general situation is calm. We have sent an assessment patrol to the east of Jebel mara. It was the first time we’ve had access to this area. It was a team composed of military and civilian personnel, UNAMID as well as UN country team went there to make an assessment of the situation from the humanitarian and security point of view.”

Kemal Saiki said that the humanitarian situation is deteriorating in the area.
