Chad Should Respect The Rome Statute, Says ICC
21 July 2010 - (Paris) – The ICC has warned Chad that the UN Security Council will take disciplinary measures against Chad, if they do not honor the Rome Statues.
A prominent lawyer in the ICC, Al-Hadi Shellof said that Chad’s invitation to al-Bashir is a clear violation of the Rome statutes.
Shellof spoke to SRS from Paris on Wednesday.
[Al-Hadi Shellof]: “If al-Bashir travels to Chad that will be considered as a clear offense from Chad to the international rules and the ICC and the Rome Statues, to which Chad is a signatory. So the human rights organizations, the ICC and also the UN Security Council can take punitive action against Chad for its contravention of the Rome statutes by receiving President al-Bashir.”
