Church Call For Proper Referendum Monitoring

11 November 2010 – (Rumbek) – The Sudan Catholic Bishops conference meeting which gathered Bishops from Madagascar, Malawi and Eastern African countries urged church leaders to ensure proper monitoring of the forthcoming referendum in January 2011.

The President of the Sudan Catholic Bishops' Conference Rudolf Deng Majak said it was a historic meeting as it came at a crucial time ahead of the referendum.

The President of the Episcopal Conference of Eastern Africa Tarcisio Ziyaye and Bishop of Blantyre Catholic Church of Malawi urged church leaders involved in the referendum monitoring to be keen during the conduct of the referendum.

The Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference meeting kicked off on Monday the 8th of November in Rumbek and is expected to end next week on Monday 15th of November 2011.
