Circulation Of Fake Money Raises Concerns In Juba

8th March 2011 – (Juba) – A report on the circulation of fake money in the market has raised concerns in Central Equatoria state.

Three foreigners and two Sudanese were arrested after they were found printing fake dollars at Tong-ping area.

There is yet another fear of fake money in form of one Sudanese pound –under the print with serial number starting ‘AG’ circulating the market in Eastern Equatoria state

The governor of Eastern Equatoria State, Luis Lobong Lojore spoke to SRS on Monday.

[Luis Lobong]: “We are aware; we have identified that there is fake money, one Sudanese pound in circulation which is fake. We have informed all communities, we have also warned the people at the Bank, and we have beefed up security all over to trace and arrest those who are printing these fake money. We have been told that most of this fake money is coming from Juba. We are doing our best and the securities are following them.”

In Juba, shopkeepers and public service vehicle owners are skeptical when receiving any new currency note.
