Darfur Refugees Demand Protection From UN And Release Of Jailed Refugees In Cairo

10 January 2011 - (Nairobi) - About one hundred refugees from Darfur region pitched camp at the United Nations Mission in Cairo demanding protection and the release of jailed refugees.

One of the refugees and an official at the Sudanese Studies Center, Abdalla Idriss spoke to SRS on Thursday from Cairo.

[Abdalla Idriss]: “They are raising their concerns that their colleagues are missing, some were jailed. Currently the environment is scary, our condition is very difficult. They are raising these concerns demanding protection and improvement to their status, and they are also urging the release of their brothers who were detained by the police who took them two days ago.”

Last week, some refuges from Darfur claimed that their condition was worsening due to on-going popular uprising in Egypt.
