Darfur State Government Calls On Communities To Join SAF Fight Anti-government Forces

16 November 2010 – (Nyala) – The government of South Darfur state is calling on the local communities to join forces with the Sudan Armed Forces to fight the anti-government groups in the region.

Speaking to SRS from Nyala on Monday, the political adviser of the government of South Darfur Mohamed Abdulrahman Mudallal said that the anti-government groups are against the government’s new strategy to bring lasting peace to the area.

He said the groups are now targeting innocent civilians instead of fighting the government.

[Mohamed Abdulrahman Mudallal]: “Regarding the mobilization this is true. We are saying that armed movements in Darfur are at last targeting civilians and not the government. They have targeted several commercial caravans carrying fuel and medicine. For these reasons all the youth have collaborated with SAF in different sectors to stand strongly against the looting of their property and that of their relatives.”

However one of the leaders of the Rizeygat community who preferred to remain anonymous warned civilians against the alliance saying it is the same anti-government groups that are fighting injustices in the region.

[Anonymous]: “We want to tell our people not to listen to these talks, our message is no to war, no to destruction. Those whom we are fighting are the sons of this country; we are against those who are mobilizing people. The opposition movements emerged to fight the injustice inflicted upon the people of Darfur. Al-Dien great locality lies inside Darfur. How could the people of Al-Dien break the line and let down others? No to any mobilization and no to any new wounds, let the NCP look for others to mobilize not the people of Darfur.”

That was one of the leaders of the Rizeygat tribe speaking to SRS from Darfur.
