Drinking Water From The River Could Be Contaminated

28 February 2011 – (Juba) –Authorities in Juba Payam are urging residents to avoid buying water being brought straight from the river to avoid water borne diseases.

The Public Health officer in the Payam Mr. Kalisto Tombe spoke to SRS in Juba on Monday.

[Kalisto Tombe]: “I am urging all the people living in Juba town that every tanker that brings you water you must see the water first before you buy, was it brought direct from the river or from the water points. Don’t take the water that was brought direct from the river except the people that want to use that water for making bricks, even those people who want to make bricks sometimes will need to drink. So don’t buy water that was brought direct from the river because this is what brings us diseases to the people in Juba like diarrhea and typhoid. All these diseases come from dirty water.”

That was Mr. Kalisto Tombe the public health officer in Juba Payam speaking to SRS in Juba on Monday.
