DUP Urges Wider Consultations On Referendum
23 July 2010 - (Kharoum) – The leader of the Democratic Union Party Mohamed Osman Al- Mirghani has called for wider consultations regarding crucial issues facing the country like the forthcoming 2011 referendum.
Addressing the press in Khartoum on Thursday, Al-Mirghani said that the NCP and SPLM should involve others in preparing for the referendum.
[Mohamed Osman Al- Mirghani]: “The two ruling partners cannot resolve the problems in the country by themselves. They must involve capable people to deliberate on the referendum issue, the unity of Sudanese people and the land. In the agreement between Al-Mirghani and Garang, although I do not remember the exact article, it was agreed that we should consolidate unity before the referendum and that all the Sudanese people, including all leaders, should work towards the unity of Sudan and the resolution of the Darfur conflict.”
Al-Mirghani said that the two partners to the CPA must ensure that peace prevails in Sudan. He was speaking after meeting the vice president and president of the Government of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir in Khartoum on Thursday.
