Egypt To Begin Registration Soon

22 November 2010 – (Khartoum) – The Egyptian government has announced that referendum voter registration for eligible southern Sudanese will commence in Cairo over the coming few days.

Voter registration started on the 15th of November all over the country and in five countries abroad. However, the exercise was delayed in Australia, the United States of America and Egypt due to belated protocol and diplomatic arrangements.

Speaking to the press in Khartoum on Sunday after meeting with the SSRC leadership, the Egyptian Consul General to Sudan, Mister Mutaz Mustafa Kamel said preparations for the start of voter registration in Egypt have been completed.

[Mutaz Mustafa]: “Hopefully in a few days to come voter registration for southern Sudanese in the Arab Republic of Egypt will start in Egypt in three main places: in Hein Shems and Medinat Nasr and Mahaadi and in places of residence where our southern Sudanese brothers are living in the Arab Republic of Egypt. We hope that God will help facilitate the success of voter registration for the citizens and what will follow it in the lead up to the conduct of the up-coming referendum on the self-determination for southern Sudan to take place by God’s will, the event that represents a major landmark of importance just not for Sudan and Egypt, but rather for the entire regional and international entities.”

The registration exercise is expected to end on the 1st of December 2010.
