Egypt Begins Registration On 22nd November

19 November 2010 – (Cairo) – The referendum registration exercise in Egypt may start on the 22nd of November, a week after the exercise was officially started.

According to the Southern Sudan Referendum Commission, the registration exercise delayed due to logistical problems and also because the registration officers had not been trained.

A representative of the SSRC in Egypt, Mary Isaac told SRS in Cairo that they are now training registration officers before the exercise begins.

[Marry Isaac]: “The training is going very well and people are joining the training. We have trained the second batch and we will start training the third batch because we will be having three centers. Each batch will work in one center. We will have three centers in Cairo, which are Maadia, Ayen Alshams and Medina Alnasser. We have not faced any challenges as the training is well conducted. Most likely we will start registering people on Monday, and if not, maybe late by a day or two.”

The voter registration exercise started on Monday the 15th of November in the country and some centers abroad.
