Embrace A Spirit Of Nationalism, Says Legislature

14 February 2011 – (Juba) – A member of the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly is calling on southerners to embrace the spirit of nationalism for development of the new state.

Julius Moilinga spoke to SRS in Juba on Sunday.

[Julius Moilinga] “Every body must know that number one this country belongs to us. Secondly we’ve got to have the spirit of nationalism. A nation is not only built by the leaders no! Everybody has a role to play. People have to be proactive and people have to understand what they voted for. The 98% was not voted for so that we only rejoice and sleep no! We need to establish a nation.”

Moilinga also urged other Southern political parties to put their differences aside and work together.

[Julius Moilinga]: “We should not begin to create a lot of resistance because we belong to this party and that. But all in all, we have a lot of common objectives between parties which we can be able to share together. We have common goals and common strategies for the good of the people. This party thing when put above the needs of the people of southern Sudan, it becomes a taboo and it only creates divisions and so forth. Otherwise, we are all southerners and we need to think of the South and look forward to the good of this country.”

South Sudan voted overwhelmingly last month in a referendum to secede from the north.
