Federal Government Accuses Darfur Anti-Government Group Of Supporting Gaddafi
22 February 2011 – (Khartoum/Doha) – The federal government has accused the Justice and Equality Movement of supporting Gaddafi against the on-going uprising in Libya.
Libya, which shares its south east borders with Sudan and Darfur, has become the latest Arab country to be hit by popular revolts which has swept over the Arab World since the beginning of this year.
The advisor to the federal minister of information, Rabie Abdulaati told SRS on Tuesday from Khartoum that some anti-government groups in Darfur are being used in a desperate attempt to stop the growing protests in Libya.
[Rabie Abdulaati]: “We believe that all weapons are coming from Libya and Gaddafi himself has welcomed the leader of the Justice and Equality Movement. And a lot of other evidences also prove that rebels also holding arms against the government are from Libya and also Darfur, that is why believe that some of the militia, some of the armed groups are supporting Gaddafi against the uprising in the whole of Libya.”
However the JEM’s senior member, Ahmed Togud has denied any activities by JEM in Libya in support of Gaddafi against the on-going unrest.
[Ahmed Togud]: ““There is no a single Sudanese working as a mercenary to kill the Libyan people, the statement by Sudan’s foreign minister, and what has been reported in the pro-government paper el-Intibaha which is owned by el-Tayib Mustafa, are irresponsible statements. We will put the blame on the government, if any thing happens to the Sudanese residing in Libya following these inciting and irresponsible statements, by irresponsible people and irresponsible country unfortunately.”
Since last March the Libyan Government has been hosting the leader of the Darfur anti-government group JEM, Khalil Ibrahim after the Chadian government denied him entrance on his way to his base in Darfur.
