A financial Technical Committee To Be Formed By Both North And South Sudan To Find Ways Of Setlling Sudan's Debt
9th March 2011 – (Juba) – A financial technical committee is being formed to find ways in which Sudan’s debt will be settled between the international community, the federal government and the Goss.
The advisor to the federal minister of information, Rabie Abdulaati told SRS on Wednesday from Khartoum that the international community, NCP and SPLM promised to settle the debt.
[Rabie Abdulaati]: “This is actually not a political situation. How to solve the debts is very clear. That the northern government and the southern government in addition to the international community already promised to exempt a percentage from this debt. And this issue concerns the technical financial committee to see what percentage is to be shouldered by the north and by the south and what is to be exempted by the international community and the international monetary fund. This is actually going on and we hope by the 9th of July this issue will be settled.”
However, the Goss minister for Peace and CPA implementation, Pagan Amum on Tuesday said that the south will cooperate with north under certain conditions.
[Pagan Amum]: “The government of the south is willing to work together with the government of the north to relief the debt with the international community. The government of the south is looking to give grants, a conditional grant because the south would like to see the government in the north cooperate for the return of Abyei to the south. And for a full demarcation of the border as well as ensuring mutual security for the south as well as the north.”
The debt which is about 30 billion US Dollars is expected to be settled by July.
