GOSS 2011 Budget

10th March 2011 – (Juba) – The Committee for Economy, Development and Finance on Monday presented a second draft of this year’s Goss budget of about 5 point 7 billion Sudanese Pounds to the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly.

The chairperson of the committee, Honorable Bari Wanji outlined the content of the draft in an interview with SRS in Juba on Wednesday.

[Hon. Bari Wanji]: “What happened in the second reading is that this committee presented its budget draft of the government. So, the resources that will be marshaled to execute the plan in the budget, amounts to about 5.7 billion Sudanese pounds, which is approximately 2.8 or 2.7 billion dollars. This is a lot of money by the standards of Africa. We want a very good dam, the money will not come from us per se because we don’t have the money at the moment .But, through bilateral relations between us and other countries, we will be able to raise about 2 billion or 3 billion dollars and, of course this will be paid back over a long period. So, it is possible for us to build the dam that way.”

Bari Wanji said that the budget if approved will be the highest in southern Sudan since the signing of the CPA in 2005.
The Western Equatoria state minister for finance and economic planning, Evans Dokta says the state parliament on Monday passed the 2011 budget worth 143 million Sudanese Pounds.

Mister Dokta spoke to SRS on Thursday in Juba.

[Evans Doctor]: “The budget has been presented to the assembly and the assembly has passed it to the specialized committee for finance to go through the budget and they are working on it now. The total budget of this year is 143,178,608 Sudanese pounds, this is the total budget and then out of that budget, 73 percent is allocated for salaries and 14 percent is allocated for operation cast and then 13 percent is allocated for capital cast. The capital cast is used for construction of the governmental buildings like the offices and also the purchases of cabs.”
