GOSS Appreciates Low Regitsration Turnout In North

16 November 2010 – (Juba) – The Government of Southern Sudan has appreciated the low turnout for the referendum voter registration in northern Sudan.

The GOSS Minister of Youth and Sports Mr. Makuach Teny spoke to SRS in Juba Airport upon his arrival from Khartoum on Tuesday.

[Makuach Teny]: “We were really very happy from the turn out that our people have listened to our call that any body if he cannot reach south Sudan has to refrain from the vote and yesterday the turnout was very low in a sense that they have heard our call such that we don’t want our enemies to be given a chance to play with the results of the referendum.”

Mr. Makuach assured that the low turnout in northern Sudan will not affect the referendum process.

[Makuach Teng]: “No it will not affect the referendum process, it will affect only in the south if our people do not go and register in big numbers. But I believe in the south everybody will go and register because his vote or her vote will be in its place whether he voted for separation or voted for unity it will be accounted for. But in the north things might be different even if he voted for separation the turnout can come as he voted for unity so that is why we are advising our people not to register and vote in the north.”

That was the GOSS minister of Youth and Sports Mr. Makuach Teny speaking to SRS in Juba on Tuesday.
