GOSS To Set Up A price Control System
3rd March 2011 – (Juba) –The government of Southern Sudan has not yet set a price control system to regulate the prices of goods and services in the market.
The senior inspector general of intellectual property rights in the department of trade and supply ministry of commerce, Peter Vayoch said on Thursday in Juba that it is difficult to control the prices of goods and services in the market across southern Sudan.
Mr.Vayoch spoke to S-R-S in Juba on Thursday.
[Peter Vayoch]: “It is difficult for the government to reduce such a price because the price control is not yet set even in our ministry of commerce; it is difficult for us to control the traders while the tax is not yet reduced by the government. It is still difficult because we lack so many things unless there are agricultural companies that can produce locally within southern Sudan and the government can encourage the farmers produce bulk goods which can motivate the poor traders to reduce prices of goods and this can force all foreign traders to also reduce their prices in the market.”
He further added that, GoSS needs to reduce taxes on all imported goods to enable traders lower the prices of goods as well.
