Health Ministry Pledges To Reduce Martenal Mortality
23 February 2011 – (Bentiu) – The GOSS Minister of Health, Dr. Luka Monoja says one of the priorities of the government is to reduce maternal mortality in southern Sudan.
Speaking during a visit to Bentiu in Unity State on Tuesday, Dr. Monoja said that health workers should cooperate with the state’s ministry to save lives of the people and especially pregnant mothers.
[Dr Monoja]: “This agenda especially to prevent women from dying because of pregnancy. When a woman is pregnant she is going to give birth to life, to a new life. She cannot pay for this new life by herself dying. She should be celebrating and we should be happy and should come back in good health. All our women, all our young girls who are going to form their families; our duty is to guarantee for them a healthy life. So, we will visit the hospitals we will visit one health facility when we have the plan. But we are going to make a commitment to ourselves that 2011 we achieve this, 2012 this, 2013 this. This is because health is for all but it’s also everybody’s business. Health is not the work of the doctors alone, health is not the work of the minister alone, health is for all of us.’’
Doctor Monoja urged authorities in Unity state to offer better and affordable health services to the people using the oil revenue.
