Ibrahim Flies to Libya Following Detention in Chad

20 May 2010 - (Cairo) – The Libyan authorities have welcomed the leader of the Darfur anti-government group, the Justice and Equality Movement, Dr. Khalil Ibrahim, following his detention at N’Djamena airport by the Chadian authorities on Wednesday.

Ibrahim was intending to travel to Western Darfur via Chad.

A senior JEM official, Mansour Arbab Yonis, spoke to SRS on Thursday from Cairo.

[Mansour Arbab Yonis]: “The leader of JEM, Dr. Khalil Ibrahim was denied entry by the Chadian authorities to go to Darfur via Chad. He went back together with his accompanying delegation to Libya late on Wednesday night. Now he is in Tripoli and we would like to thank the Libyan authorities who have agreed to welcome him.”

Mansour Arbab Yonis was speaking to SRS from Cairo on Thursday.
