Islamic Bank To Help Develop South


27 July 2010 - (Juba) – The Islamic Development Bank has expressed readiness to assist in the development of southern Sudan before the forthcoming referendum.

On Monday, a delegation from the Islamic Development Bank met GOSS Vice President Riek Machar.

The vice president of the Islamic Development Bank operation office, Sidebe Birama addressed reporters after the meeting.

[Sidebe Birama]: “We discussed the projects and opportunities in the main economic sector; infrastructure, energy and road. We also discussed the priority sector and basic needs as well like education, health care and agriculture. So, we realized that there are big ambitions for the development of this part of the country. And there are challenges to meet those ambitions but we will be standing by your side of development to help achieving those challenges and bring about the human development in this country.”

Doctor Riek Machar said that he will present the issue before the council of ministers to decide on the Islamic Bank proposal.
