Joint Border Technical Committee Begins Work
The Joint Border Technical Committee on Wednesday started the north-south border demarcation process with selection of required maps and designs.
Speaking to SRS on Wednesday by phone, the deputy chairperson of the Joint Border Technical Committee Riek Dogor explains the development of the border demarcation process.
[Riek Dogor]: “We want to do an intensive work. Demarcation of course still remains a process. We are processing the preliminary map that is going to be used on the ground for erecting the pillage. And we are now selecting the design with the modest of pillar that is going to be put on the ground. We will extend an invitation for those who would like to participate in the bid as well as training those engineers who will work with those companies, on the types of the instruments that will be used on the ground and the process. It will not be one company or two. It will be more than one. The second is that the companies themselves will provide the material. The engineers will be provided by the office of surveyors in the country both in the south and the north.”
The border demarcation process was stalled due lack of agreement between the NCP and the SPLM about some of the areas to be demarcated.
The deputy chairman of the Joint Border Technical Committee, Riek Dogor said that the committee will sensitize communities along the border due to be demarcated to prevent conflicts.
