Juba International Airport To Be Expanded

24 February 2011 – (Juba) –The Government of southern Sudan has formed committees to oversee the expansion of Juba International Airport before the end of the interim period in July.

The manager of Juba International Airport, Kur Koul Adieu spoke to SRS on Wednesday in Juba.

[Kur Koul]: “The Government of southern Sudan has formed some committees, which will be working on expanding the Juba International Airport. We would like to expand the runways along with the planes’ parking lots, and also getting new security equipments among other things. The government is also currently working on getting radars for the airport to monitor the atmosphere across South Sudan, and it is also currently working on the new terminal or hall which is under construction. Despite the fact that time is limited, the government is doing its best to finish most of what I have mentioned before July 2011”

The move by GoSS is regarded as timely because of an expected increase of international flights into Juba since the south will be an independent nation.
