Land Policy And Land Law Inclusive In The Newly Drafted Land Policy For The South
22 February 2011 – (Juba) – The chairperson of the Southern Sudan Land Commission said that the newly drafted land policy includes a land law and a land policy.
The new Land policy aims at regulating how lands are leased and used in the region.
Speaking to SRS in Juba on Tuesday the chairperson of the commission Robert Ladu explains the difference between a land law and a land policy.
[Robert Ladu]: "There are two different things; there is the land law and the land policy. The land law is what we've already presented and it is passed by the parliament. And this one is the land policy, the policy talks about every part of land customary and all. The policy is just how does the law apply when somebody contravenes such a provision. This policy when it passed by the parliament we will use it to see the short comings in the land acts so that they are corrected.
Ladu also added that rights to land ownership are not yet clarified by parliament as well as classification of government land and communal land.
