Malakal Hospital In Need Of Medical Staff And Renovations

24 November 2010 – (Malakal) – The general manager of Malakal Teaching Hospital Dr. Gabriel Daniel says the hospital suffers a shortage of staff and is in bad shape.

Dr. Gabriel spoke to SRS on Tuesday in Malakal.

[Gabriel Daniel-Arabic]: “So currently as we speak right now, the population of Malakal town is not the same as it was when this hospital was first built, so it has become very tiny and we are unable to admit all the patients who come to the hospital. We have a shortage of doctors and staff in general. We are supposed to have at least nine specialists, but right now we only have five of those. On top of the five specialists we have nine other general doctors, not to mention the shortage of nurses around here. Therefore the way I see it, if the government does not come up with a new policy to deal with this issue very soon, we will have no staff in the hospital”

The GoSS has been renovating sections of the Malakal Teaching Hospital.
