Mismanagement Of Non-Oil Revenue To Impact Negativelt On Would Be New State of Sudan
8th March 2011 – (Juba) –A Sudanese economist says that the mismanagement of non-oil revenue in southern Sudan will impact negatively on the would be Republic of Southern Sudan.
Speaking to SRS from Juba on Tuesday, Professor Kimo Adibo said that southern Sudan does not have proper systems to account for its revenue from taxes and foreign exchange.
[kimo Edibo] “None oil sources of revenue, you know that we have border trading with a number of countries, including Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia, and we have a lot of goods coming here and are being taxed. So, the question is where is the money for the taxations? Another area of concern is the way we are dealing with our foreign exchange. There is a lot of manipulations in the foreign exchange, that is why you will find foreign exchange rate in the black market higher than the bank. So, there is no control issue on our foreign exchange, and people are changing money like any other commodity in the market and this is serious.”
Professor Adibo says that the non-oil revenue if reflected in the national budget can help in the development of the new republic.
