Muslim Leader Supports Separation

14 July 2010 - (Juba) – Following the bishops’ announcement, a prominent Muslim from the south also urged southerners to vote for secession.

Subri Sayid Abdullah Deng, who is also the leader of the Liberated Muslim organization in southern Sudan, spoke to SRS on Wednesday from Juba.

[Subri Sayid Abdullah Deng]: “We as southern Muslims are not a big percentage which can affect the result of unity or secession. But I as a southern Muslim in Juba, I can tell you that 99% of southerners are calling for secession. The secession of the south will make me first class Muslim in southern Sudan. Even if Sudan unites, I will be second or third class in Sudan. Honestly I want the secession and show high respect and support to what Bishop Paul Yugusuk said regarding secession of southern Sudan. We are standing shoulder to shoulder with GOSS and its President Salva Kiir, that there is no way to go back, secession, secession, period.”
