North And South Express Diplomatic Modalities

9th March 2011 – (Juba) –In preparation for the new south Sudan state, the federal government and Goss are establishing diplomatic modalities to co-exist as neighbouring states.

Undersecretary in the G-o-S-S Ministry of Regional Cooperation, Selwa Beriberi on Wednesday in Juba said that they discussed expected bilateral relations between the north and the south after the interim period.

[Selwa Beriberi] “We covered huge areas of cooperation which involve what we call in international law secession of states. And we have covered a big area of that with respect to the treaties, with respect to what we are going to do with issues like the Nile water- only in the areas of materials and treaties. We also discussed very pertinent area which is relevant to our two ministries, and that is area of customs and practice regarding diplomatic protocol and consulate relations”.

The two-day meeting that started on Monday was attended by officials from the Goss ministry of regional cooperation and Federal ministry of foreign affairs.
