Other Alternatives To Be Sought By GoSS For Exporting Oil Abroad
17 February 2011 – (Juba) – The minister of peace and CPA implementation in GoSS has revealed that southern Sudan will look for other alternatives of exporting its oil to other countries in the future.
Pagan Amum told the press on Wednesday in Juba that GOSS will consult with its neighboring counterparts of Kenya, Djibouti and Central African Republic to allow southern Sudan pass its oil pipeline through their territories.
He however said that southern Sudan will continue to use Port Sudan pipeline until decided otherwise by GOSS.
[Pagan Amum]: “We see Southern Sudan as it becomes an independent state becoming actually one of the fastest growing economies, and Southern Sudan is emerging as a land locked country and it will develop different alternatives routes to access the seas. So southern Sudan will be looking not only to be relying on one single outlet like Port Sudan, but would also develop alternatives like; having access to Djibouti port, continue to have access to Mombasa, and possibly working with the Kenyans to develop Lamu port, southern Sudan will be looking into also developing access to the Atlantic Coast through Congo. These are very important, and this will be justified by the needs of the economy of southern Sudan as it grows.”
The government of southern Sudan has relied on Port Sudan pipeline in the North as its main route of exporting its share of oil wealth to the international community since the signing of the CPA.
