16 July 2010 - (Rumbek) – Authorities in Lakes state have pledged to implement all the resolutions arrived at during a four day conference by the chiefs of the warring Agaar and Beli communities.

Addressing chiefs at the end of the conference on Thursday, the political advisor of Lakes state government, Engineer Marko Chol Maciec conveyed the Governor Chol Tong Mayay’s message.

[Marko Chol]: “He says he will fully agree with whatever resolutions you have made; he is fully in agreement with what you have decided and together with his government, he will implement the recommendations and the resolutions you have adopted in this conference.”

According to him the governor also called on the two communities to embrace peace and respect it so that these resolutions are sustained.

[Marko Chol]: “He also said, peace cannot be brought from outside by someone else. You have to own the peace so that these resolutions and the peace will be sustainable. PACT, Peace commission or the government will not bring you peace; it is you the community, when you agree that you need peace, then that peace will be sustainable.”

That was Lake State political advisor, Marko Chol Maciec speaking at the end of a four day conference in Rumbek on Thursday.
