A Possibility Of War Between North And South May Breakout-Analyst

2nd March 2011 – (Nairobi) –A Sudanese political analyst has warned of war between the would be new nations in Sudan over the Abyei border demarcation.

Proffesor Al-Tayeb Zain Albdin presented a paper during a two day workshop in Nairobi on the post referendum in Sudan, east and horn of Africa.

Al-Tayeb spoke to SRS on Tuesday during the closing of the workshop.

[Al-Tayeb Zain]: “What am afraid may happen is a new clash between the north and the south because of Abyei. This is because of the disagreements on some complicated border areas, which is about 20% between the north and the south. And also new fighting may erupt in the north be it from Darfur or from southern Kordofan or blue Nile state. And also I talked about possible clashes that may erupt in the south, because now in the south we do have some militias fighting the government, and fighting between the farmers and cattle keepers. And the fact that there is a claim that the Dinka tribe is the tribe that is taking control of the south over the rest of the tribes.

Al-Tayeb said that the two regions must cooperate in order to achieve their goals.

[Al-Tayeb Zain]: “The oil despites its importance and its sensitivity, both regions in Sudan, be it in the north or in the south, they must cooperate. 80% of the oil is produced in the south .However; the oil refinery is in the north. So whether they like it or not they must cooperate, to succeed.
