Post-referendum Talks Began in Addis Ababa
3rd March 2011 – (Khartoum) –Post-referendum discussions between the two signatories to the CPA, the SPLM and the NCP resumed on Tuesday in Addis Ababa.
The leader of the SPLM caucus in the National Assembly, Thomas Wani Kundu spoke to SRS from Khartoum on Thursday.
[Tomas Wani Kundu] “We have instated for a negotiation panel which is going on now in Addis Ababa which started the day before yesterday [Tuesday] between the SPLM and NCP regarding the post referendum issues. They are discussing about that at the moment. We are in our position that we have to continue in parliament until the end of the interim period because we are here for an assignment to see through the outstanding issues like the Abyei issue. The case is under negotiation now and if it is developed, then there will be need for the formation of a referendum commission for Abyei.”
The SPLM and the NCP are yet to agree on contentious post referendum issues regarding Abyei, wealth sharing and currency among others.
