President Kiir Registers In Juba
15 November 2010 – (Juba) – In Juba, the GOSS President Salva Kiir Mayardit initiated the exercise by getting registered at Registration Center No. 11 located at John Garang Mausoleum.
Addressing reporters immediately after he registered, Kiir urged southern Sudanese to come out in large numbers to register for the exercise.
[Salva Kiir]: “My message to all southern Sudanese people wherever they maybe is, they are encouraged to register their names so that they can be able to vote in the coming referendum which is supposed to take place on the 9th of January, 2011. This is the only opportunity that southern Sudanese people have been waiting for. And people must come out in masses to register. they make sure that all those who register must also come out to vote when the voting day comes and if southerners miss this opportunity, then they would have been fighting and dying for no cause at all.”
President Kiir urged the International Community to keep a close watch on the detractors of the referendum.
[Salva Kiir] “I’m not in a position to warn anybody not to cause any problem because those who want to cause problems would do anything that they could to cause the problem because there are people who are not happy with the referendum. They would not want to see the referendum take place. The International Community should then now keep a close watch on all of us, being northerners and southerners to see who is interested in derailing the whole process.”
In Juba, the turn out is high as people crowd the registration centers.
