Public Universities In South To Open In May
23 February 2011 – (Juba) – Public universities in southern Sudan will now open in May instead of April so that GOSS can put up structures to accommodate the returnee students from the north.
According to GOSS minister of higher education, there are more students as compared to the physical structures available in southern Sudan.
Joseph Ukel was speaking during a press conference in Juba on Wednesday.
[Joseph Ukel]: “Concerning the date of opening, we had planned that these universities should open by the beginning of April, but seem to be not possible. You cannot in one month put up these structures for accommodation. So we had agreed that let us fix it to the 15th of May, 2011 for us to open, and to allow the administration of the university to put up some quick structures for accommodation, and to give the ministry and the government to negotiate over our things which are held up in the north.”
Joseph Ukel said that GOSS will continue offering scholarships and cater for southern Sudanese students in the higher learning institutions across the world.
