Referendum To Be Observed By international Bodies, Urges UMMA Party
22 July 2010 - (Khartoum) – The UMMA party leader, Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi says the southern referendum exercise must be observed by an international body to avoid a return to war scenario.
Al-Mahdi addressed a press conference in Khartoum on Wednesday.
[Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi–Arabic]: “We have decided that the referendum should be conducted by international observers. This point is clear; any disagreement on referendum result means a return to war. We should avoid whatever occurred in the last elections because the two parties failed to agree in the last elections. The National Congress Party thinks it is perfect 100 percent while the other political forces reject the result; the same happened in the South that was the real problem. We can’t allow this experience to repeat itself.”
