Registration In Australia Facing Challenges

18 November 2010 – (Juba) –The chairman of Sudanese community in Northern Tasmania Samson Michael Masiya says that the registration exercise in Australia is facing many challenges.

Speaking to SRS on Thursday from Northern Tasmania, Masiya said that distance is a challenge for many potential voters who are willing to register and cast their votes on 09th January 2011.

[Samson Michael]: “There are only three centers here which is Victoria in Melbourne, and then New South Wales which is Sydney the capital Sydney and then Australian Capital Territory. So these are the three stations where registration is taking place. Well, the challenge is transport including accommodation because when people don't have friends in other states and they happen to go and register and turn back the same day, its technically challenging in a way that if you book a flight then you go and register, you have to book another flight to go and vote as well but people doesn't guarantee as much because anything can happen.”

Mr. Masiya also said that there are many rumors being circulated about the exercise and these are making people skeptical about the exercise.
