Registration Official In Rumbek Is Optimistic That Exercise Will Pick Up

19 November 2010 – (Rumbek) – The chairman of the Lakes state Referendum High committee, Michael Mabor Makuei, says he is optimistic that the voter registration exercise will pick up despite some challenges.

Speaking to SRS Mabor said that there are a total of 215 registration centers in the state.

Mabor says the turnout will improve as voter awareness continues.

[Michael Mabor Makuei]: “There is a claim that voter awareness is not much and therefore the numbers are few but it will take momentum as people increase the voter awareness through the taskforce. The only message to the community is that they have to come and register. If you sit in your house whether you have any reservation or what then how will we know who you are?”

Mabor also revealed that his office has received thirty satellite phones to be given to the registration officers in remote centers to help in communication.
