Registration Picks Up In EES After Civic Education

24 November 2010 – (Kapoeta) – The commissioner of Kapoeta East county in Eastern Equatoria State Charles Lopeyok says that although the turnout for voter registration was initially poor, the exercise picked up after civic education was conducted.

Mr. Lopeyok spoke to SRS on Wednesday from Kapoeta East county.

[Charles Lopeyok]: “The importance of referendum is that we all know very well that CPA is almost ending and we are reaching a point whereby we don't need to fight with guns and this is a point where the war will be through the votes. I would like to encourage all southern Sudanese to vote. The turnout was very low in the beginning of the registration but when the MP and few ministers started campaigning and encouraging people to go and register and the importance of referendum so that everybody exercise their rights.”

Lopeyok said that only registered southern Sudanese will vote in the referendum.

[Charles Lopeyok]: “There are some people who say that they want to divide the country or it should remain united, but at the end of the day they will not exercise it on the paper. But those who will participate are the ones who have the right to decide for either option.”
