Republic Of South Sudan Name Proposed For New State To Be
17 February 2011 – (Juba) – The Republic of South Sudan is the name that has been adopted for the new state by the SPLM Political Bureau on Tuesday.
This proposed name was presented to all southern Sudanese political parties’ leaders in a conference held on Wednesday in which they subsequently endorsed it as the name of the new country.
Speaking to journalists in Juba on Wednesday, at the SPLM national headquarters, SPLM secretary general, Pagan Amum said that the proposed name shall be submitted to the council of ministers and the parliament for further ratification.
[Pagan Amum]: “We adapted proposals that will be submitted to the government and to the parliament so that the name of the new state will be south Sudan. We are inviting all the political parties to be engaged in the formulation of development of the constitution of southern Sudan. Also we are interested to see to that the civil society is involve in the process so there is going to be an all parties inclusive constitutional conference that will be convene by GoSS. We will also make sure that our women are effectively participating because they are a very important group in our society.”
The southern Sudanese political parties are still meeting in Juba to decide on the new currency and flag of the Republic of South Sudan.
