SLM-Abdulwahid May Join Doha Talks

14 February 2011 – (Kampala) – The Sudan Liberation Movement Abdulwahid’s faction said that they are engaged in talks with the AU-UN joint mediator and Qatar officials to join the Darfur peace talks in Doha which is to begin at the end of this month.

The spokesperson of SLM-Abdulwahid’s faction, Nimir Mohammed Abdulrahman spoke to SRS from Kampala on Friday.

[Nimir Mohammed]: “During the past period we announced our strategic plan on how to bring sustainable peace in Darfur. Based on that, we conducted several consultations, including one with the international mediator, Djibril Bassole and the Qatari official Ahmed Bin Abdalla Al Mahmoud. Currently we are conducting consultations with them, but we haven’t agreed yet to send a delegation to the direct negotiation process.”

SLM has been rejecting to engage in any peace talks with the federal government.
