Southern Sudan To Promote Human Rights

2nd March 2011 – (Nairobi) –Southern Sudan should promote human rights to achieve economic prosperity.

That recommendation came from a two day workshop that started on Monday on post referendum Sudan, east and horn of Africa.

Professor Melha Rout Biel who participated in the workshop spoke to Sudan Radio Service after the workshop on Tuesday.

[Melha Rout Biel]: “The recommendations actually were many. But generally we agreed that the new emerging southern Sudan should learn from the past. It should ensure that it should not copy the message that has happen in the north and other African countries. There are a lot of recommendations on educations, setting up a good educations system for everybody and make it available. That they must be freedom of expressions in southern Sudan. This is very important for human rights issue which is a good recommendation that people should be participating.”

The workshop was organized by the Council for Development of Social Research in Africa in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the African Research and Resource Forum.
