SPLM Condemns Assassination Attempt On Darfur Member
15 July 2010 - (Khartoum) – The SPLM has condemned the assassination attempt on one of its most prominent members in Northern Darfur state, Doctor Adam Musa Abdul-Gafar.
The SPLM deputy secretary general for the Northern Sector, Yassir Saed Arman, addressed the press in Khartoum on Wednesday.
[Yassir Arman]: “There was an attempt to assassinate one of our leaders in Northern Darfur. Doctor Adam Musa Abdul-Gafar was the SPLM candidate for the governorship of Northern Darfur. He was attacked on Tuesday at 3:30 PM very close to the army headquarters. He was attacked by two men who took his car which is an SPLM car and the authorities did not do enough trying to assist him and protect him. He is in a critical condition in El-Fashir hospital. We are calling upon the authorities to conduct an urgent investigation on who tried to assassinate Doctor Adam Abul-Kafar. He has been giving assistance to the displaced people as a doctor through out the last years of the war in Darfur.”
Arman also condemned the closure of an SPLM office in Amashkorieb locality in eastern Sudan by authorities there. Early this week, the commissioner of Amashkorieb ordered the closure of the SPLM office in the area.
