The SPLM Denies Reaching An Agreement With NCP Over Memebership Of Southern MP's In Parliament
7th March 2011 – (Khartoum) – The Sudan Peoples' Liberation Movement has refuted claims that the NCP and the SPLM have reached a political agreement to terminate the membership of Southern MP’s in the North
The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and SPLM official, Honorable Atem Garang spoke exclusively to SRS by phone from Khartoum on Monday.
[Atem Garang]: “There is no agreement between the SPLM and the NCP regarding termination of membership of Southern MPs in the National Legislature in Khartoum. That has not happened. Brother Ibrahim Al-Tahir interprets the constitution wrongly. The article he is insisting on is article 18 which concerns legislation. As such, we consider what Ibrahim Al-Tahir says, is that he just wants to record a victorious position that he is the one who managed to sack the southern MPs from the parliament”.
Deputy speaker Atem Garang further downplayed statements from NCP officials promising a three months token of appreciation if southern MPs steps down by April.
