SPLM Dispatches Team To Monitor Registration Including Unionists And Separatsts
12 November 2010 – (Juba) – The SPLM general secretariat has dispatched a team of secretaries and observers for the registration exercise to the ten states of southern Sudan including Abyei, Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile states.
The combined team of Greater Bahr el Ghazal, Greater Equatoria and Greater Upper Nile states shall be based in a coordination office called ‘Referendum Operation Room’ in Juba.
The supervisor for the Referendum Operation Room, Acuil Banggol told SRS on Thursday that those advocating for both unity and separation should coordinate with the office so that the exercise is credible.
[Acuil Banggol]: “This referendum operation room will be receiving information from the states and from the referendum bureau here in Juba and each of the counties shall be receiving progress information from the referendum centers. Where there is no network, we have Thuraya phones which they shall use to update us. We have sent two party agents each to the referendum bureau, states high committees, referendum sub-committees in the counties, and we have sent teams to the states to train party agents for each of the two thousand six hundred and twenty three referendum centers. Those who are supporting unity or separation should be given a chance to deploy their party agents to observe the process to make sure that it is credible, peaceful and also transparent.”
Acuil Banggol urged southern Sudanese to contribute money for the referendum exercise at county levels to make it a success.
