SSRC Chief Vows To Conduct Efficient And Fair Referendum
8 November 2010 – (Khartoum) – The Southern Sudan Referendum Commission has pledged to conduct the southern Sudan referendum with efficiency and fairness.
The chairman of commission, Prof. Mohamed Ibrahim Khalil spoke during the launch of the referendum media campaign in Khartoum on Sunday.
[Mohamed Ibrahim Khalil]: “Our duty is to conduct the referendum with efficiency and fairness and according to how it is supposed to be done. People have different opinions about the referendum process but personally I had an idea that we could have discussed our relations without coming to the referendum. However, people have made a decision on the self determination referendum and for that reason and based on the agreement we become legally and morally bound to the referendum and there is no way to retreat from that, at least not from one party. No party has the legal or moral authority to retreat or to change the idea by saying it is better not to conduct the self determination referendum.”
The media campaign for southern Sudan referendum is to educate southern Sudanese on voter registration and the voting process before the launch of registration exercise on November 15th 2010.
