10 November 2010 – (Khartoum) – The Southern Sudan Referendum Commission spokesperson, Maker Benjamin Marial says that although the commission faces financial constraints, donor agencies are working hard to find a solution.
Marial addressed the press in Khartoum on Tuesday.
[Maker Benjamin Marial]: “There is deep dialogue and discussion going on with organizations and donors. It seems there are good developments and soon the issue will be resolved in an acceptable manner to execute the referendum for southern Sudan. I think there is progress, but still the final solution has not yet been reached. However, there is an effort regarding this despite the difficult working conditions the commission is experiencing.”
Maker also pointed out some of the difficulties facing the registration preparations in the Diaspora.
[Maker Benjamin Marial]: “Regarding the Diaspora and those here in the north, committees were formed to conduct the referendum exercise. However, there has been some delay in the distribution of registration materials for voters in the Diaspora and some difficulties in coordination. The administration in the diaspora is trying to make an effort to find a solution to these problems, especially the formation of external committees.”
