Students From Khartoum To Sit Sudan School Certificate In South, Says Minister

16 February 2011 – (Juba) – The GOSS Ministry of Education has revealed that students who returned from the north will sit for the Sudan School Certificate Exams alongside the regular students.

The just concluded southern Sudan referendum interrupted studies in the north as thousands of southern Sudanese families returned to the south for the exercise.

The GOSS Minister of Education Michael Milly told SRS that the plan is an arrangement between his ministry and the federal Ministry of Education.

[Michael Milly]: “I just want to take this chance to inform those students who had registered to sit for the Sudan School Certificate exams and for one reason or the other moved with their parents to the south that there is a chance for them to do the exams here. So, they should not be separated. Arrangements have been made by the GOSS Ministry of Education and the ministry of education in Khartoum. Those students will be given chances. There will be special centers ready for them.”

Honorable Milly said the names of the students from the north will be announced over the radio.

[Michael Milly]: “Very soon we are going to make an announcement and they will have to report to the nearest centers. For example, if there are students who came from the north and they are now in Juba, they will be asked to report to some of the centers where they will collect their index numbers. So they should not be frustrated. But they must be on the watch. There will be announcements. They will be announced over the radio.”

The Sudan School Certificate exams are expected to begin in March.
