Sudan Blasts US Government Over ICC

19 July 2010 - (Khartoum) – The Sudanese government has blasted the US government stand over the International Criminal Court position against Sudan.

Presidential advisor, Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie who met the U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan Scott Gration said that the US stance in supporting the ICC is inconsistent with any positive American work towards Sudan and diminishes its feasibility.

[Nafie Ali Nafie]: “We talked with him about the ICC and the confused American position which talks frankly about supporting the ICC. This open public stand is contrary to any talks about American attempts to carry out positive work in Sudan. This lessens it is effectiveness. Of course it is true America’s talk about ICC is a position without credibility, America is the one which exempted itself from the ICC to protect its soldiers who kill innocent Palestinians, the people of Afghanistan and Iraqis, while prohibiting others from preserving peace and maintaining their sovereignty.”

While Sudanese president advisor, Ghazi Salah Al-Deen Al-Attabani said that the USA government must differentiate the issues of justice from that of the ICC.

[Ghazi Salah Al-Deen]: “America must differentiate between the issues of justice and the ICC and the USA last position through a speech by some officials from the last decision by the ICC is unacceptable to us. Also it is a position we cannot understand because it seems unprincipled because the USA has a principle position towards the ICC. And at the same time it seeks to exploit the ICC against Sudan. This must be corrected because the continuation of such double principles may effect relations and level of cooperation between the two countries.”

The American envoy Scott Gration met both presidential assistant Nafie Ali Nafie and presidential advisor Ghazi Salah Al-Deen.
