Sudan To Host Second AU Ministerial Conference In November

9 November 2010 – (Khartoum) – Sudan will host the second African Union Ministerial Conference on social development from the 21st to the 25th of November 2010.

The conference will be attended by more than 35 social development ministers from AU member-states.

The chairman of the organizing committee, the State Minister at the Federal Ministry of Welfare and Social Security, Mister Adil Awad told a press conference in Khartoum on Saturday that the conference will discuss numerous issues of importance to Africa.

[Adil Awad]: “I believe that this conference will have new things because the first conference discussed social issues and outlined general polices for social development, but now we are entering the direct implementation stage. It will look into restructuring the African society; it will look into means and strategies of implementing social development. The conference will also establish an advisory council for the aged in Africa and will pass a unified plan for African family and will evaluate all these issues. The results we are expecting as participants to this conference will be reflected from the agenda of the conference. We are expecting that it would achieve the issues I have outlined and would give a push to social work in Africa.”

The first AU Ministerial Conference on social development was held in Namibia in 2008 under the theme, “towards sustainable social development in Africa”.
