Sudanese Youth Demonstrate Over Arrests Of Students In Khartoum

21 February 2011 – (Cairo) – Sudanese youth in Egypt organized a peaceful demonstration on Monday calling for the release of students and political activists who were arrested in Khartoum last month.

The students and political activists were arrested after demonstrating against the high prices of commodities and fuel that shot up during the period of the southern Sudan referendum.

Sudan Radio Service spoke to some of the demonstrators in Egypt on Monday in Cairo.

[Vox pop]:“We are calling for the release of all those arrested or else let them be officially tried in court. Let the revolution continue even in Sudan un till it removes all those unjust tyrants. Let them go with history, for the sake of our strong and courageous people of Sudan”

[Vox pop]: “We are demonstrating today because of those arrested on January the 30th plus the closing of universities in Sudan till further notice. We are also demonstrating against the freedom of expression in Sudan, the Sudan embassy is not happy with our demonstration here, they have tried to stop us through giving orders to the military, and until now we are still here.”

[Vox pop] “We are calling upon all the activists to come out in support of this course. There will be efforts in all the Sudanese embassies for the release of those arrested, because it’s a right for the freedom of expressions.”

Those were views of southerners living in Cairo on the arrest of students and political activists in Khartoum.
